Tips for a day in KEY WEST

Last Updated 8/6/2022Posted in Travel Tips

The Florida Keys are definitely worth visiting. Hauling your RV over the 7 mile bridge can seem scary, but it wasn't as bad as you would think.  Here are some stops worth visiting:

1. Rent a Golf Cart or bring bikes- it is hard to find parking, especially if you are in a large truck.

2. Duval Street-there is lots of shopping and restaurants

3.Garbo’s Grill- amazing mahi tacos in the cute little airstream food truck in the back and drinks at Hanks, the bar in front🍹 (sometimes LIVE music!)

4. Fort Zachary Taylor- enjoy learning some history at the Fort and a day at the beach! Bring snorkeling gear!

5. Southernmost Point- get your family picture here!

6. Key West Light house- you can buy discounted tickets online.

7. Kermit’s Key West Key lime Shoppe- get the Rum cake and the Key lime pie, its so good!

8. Lagerhead- restaurant on the water with a BEACH!!! Great place for lunch or dinner! Let the kids play while you enjoy fancy drinks!

9. Mallory Square- watch the sunset 🌅 go down here!! Get here early, the parking is BUSY! You will see street performers too, so if you would like to support them, bring some cash.

Campgrounds we have stayed in:

1. Fiesta Keys- We really enjoyed it here. There is a pool and tiki bar/ restaurant right on the beach! It was close to Marathon, which there is lots to do there.

2. Sunshine Key- We loved it here too, its a 45 minute drive to Key West.

*With the 2 parks above, we paid $20/ night with our Thousand Trails membership. It definitely took lots of calling in and persistence to get 4 nights at one park and 5 nights at the other. Regularly to the public it is over $225/ night.

3. Bahia Honda State Park- this is almost impossible to get in, unless you score a cancelation though wandering labs. (best kept secret)
